I’ve been shopping around and searching online, but it seems to me that peninsula fireplaces are only available in natural gas or propane. I really hope this is not the case! I really want a fireplace and have no available walls for a typical unit. For various reasons, I am not interested in propane, natural gas, or wood burning.

We just bought a house and the fireplace is neither gas or electric. Do I just put wood in the fireplace and open the damper. This is the first house I ever owned with a fireplace. We live in Southern California and it only gets cold in the winter. But I just want to prepare myself. Don’t want to burn the house down or smoke the house if you get my drift. I can understand natural FP’s as a source of heat because it uses wood…..you can save on your gas/electric bill.

But do gas fireplaces serve any purpose for heating that couldn’t be served just as well by your furnace or even a space heater?

I guess I get the decor factor….I’m just wondering about their functionality as a heat source.
